Historic Deadwood Mansion Furnished with Period Antiques

You’ll find many period antiques throughout the 1899 Inn. We’ve acquired quite a collection of some of the finest century-old pieces in the Black Hills area. Deadwood was home to a number of wealthy families and when one of them built a fine mansion such as this one, they furnished it to impress.

The front receiving parlor has been welcoming distinguished guests since 1899. The original wood floors were specially cut to form a mitered pattern.

Each of the seven bedrooms in the main Inn are furnished with antiques bought at various auctions and sales throughout the Black Hills and into Wyoming. The flavor of the mansion as it would have been furnished in 1899 has been maintained.

The bed in the Mistress’s Chamber is hand-carved oak. The side table is of French origin and although it is difficult to put a year on it, it is thought to be about 300 years old.

This old pump organ came to Lead, Deadwood’s sister city, in the late 1880s.

The main staircase in the house is a favorite photo spot for guests. It was handcrafted and if you stand on the first floor and look up you can see straight through to the top of the third floor. Of course the stairs creak when you walk on them, it is part of the charm of a historic mansion. The wood is all original and has never been painted.

Our guests tell us how pleased they are to stay in such a wonderful place so far away from their regular world, even if it was just a 30 minute drive. They love the historic nature of this place and the fabulous hot breakfast served in the formal dining room each morning. We would welcome you to take a tour as long as you provide advance notice. But to fully appreciate the 1899 Inn you truly need to spend a night or two relaxing and taking a few deep breaths of the pine-scented air.
