Victorian Christmas Teas Becoming an Annual Tradition

The 1899 Inn in Deadwood welcomed fascinated guests to gather by the fire for afternoon Christmas Tea the first three weekends of December this year. So many requested a repeat performance for next year that we simply cannot turn them down, so expect to see them again next season! Many ladies sported fabulous hats and fascinators making the occasion spectacular! We are sure that some will be planning their headgear for next year well in advance.

The cucumber sandwiches were a delicious favorite!

Tea Sandwiches!

The tea sandwich to receive the most votes for favorite was most definitely the cucumber with fresh lemon and dill. All agreed that the homemade sourdough bread, freshly baked the evening before the tea made the little sandwiches just that much tastier. The chicken salad with black grapes and green onion came in a close second.

Cookies!

In the cookie category the ginger cookies (Grandma’s actual recipe!) frosted with orange buttercream took top honors. There were too many chocolate varieties from which to chose which made voting for a favorite difficult but the Millionaire Shortcake seemed win the prize. The biggest surprise were the gushing comments regarding the lucious lemon bars! Regardless of which took top votes, everyone left feeling sugary sweet!

On a side note, most guests were enthralled with the Frosty’s Favorite coffee from Dark Canyon Coffee in Rapid City. Most made notes so as to find it for serving to their family later.

The 1899 Inn in Deadwood is beautiful in any season but a fresh snow gives it a special glow!

Join us in December 2023 for Christmas Tea!
