Renting the Whole House for the 2016 Sturgis Rally
With the 75th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally officially finished, we've gotten calls from several bikers looking to make plans for 2016. Some people are part of large groups interested in renting an entire house for the 76th bike week. Good news! It is possible to reserve the entire house as a vacation home. Here are a few things to keep in mind.
- Firstly, the house is big. How big? We're wrapping up a renovation project on the third floor that'll make the house a seven bedroom, five bathroom home, with about 4,000 finished square feet. That makes it ideal for groups of 12 to 16. By using extra beds we have on hand, it is possible to have as many as 20 people staying in the house, but privacy gets pretty limited for groups that large.
- Two of the bedrooms have king beds, and the remaining five bedrooms have queens. We also have a queen air cot, a twin air cot, and a full air mattress available for additional guests.
- Three bedrooms have private attached bathrooms. The other four bedrooms are located on the second floor, and share the two bathrooms on that level.
- You can read more about the amenities available at the house, but they include a gas grill, gas fireplace, covered porches, wireless internet, cable and internet-enabled TV, air conditioning (two bedrooms have individual climate control; the rest of the house is on a central air system), on-demand hot water, and a formal dining room that can seat up 12 at a time.
The Good: The house is in one of Deadwood's central neighborhoods, which means it's a five-minute walk from Main Street's saloons and casinos. Sturgis is about 13 miles away through Boulder Canyon. The rides in the central Black Hills (around Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park) are about an hour away down Highway 385. This is one of the largest homes available in such a central location.
The Bad: The biggest item of concern for our rally guests: parking. The house has no covered parking, and only enough off-street parking for a trailer and perhaps four or five bikes. There's plenty of on-street parking, but if you need something a little more protected, we can direct you to some neighbors willing to rent out garage space for the week.
The Ugly: The house was built in 1899, and it's a restoration-in-progress. Expect to see some cracked plaster, some places where we're repairing trim and windows, sticky doors, squeaky stairs... the kinds of things you typically find in a historic home.
The rate for the entire house is $9,000 for the week. The official 2016 rally dates are August 8th through the 14th, but we're flexible about check-in and check-out if your group is making different plans. We're also happy to chat with groups about renting the week prior to the main event - it's typically a little less crowded the week before the Sturgis rally officially gets underway, but there are still some concerts and vendors happening around the Black Hills.
