Is Deadwood Open Yet?

With business restrictions and lockdown orders easing across the country, people are starting to venture outside - and we’ve been getting a lot of messages from travelers who are eager to get out of the house! But as people consider a quick staycation or road trip to the Black Hills, they’re asking what kinds of things there are to do. Is Deadwood open again?

As of today - May 7th - the answer is yes! Mostly. The city commission has officially allowed businesses to resume operations today, although not every casino, bar, and restaurant is re-opening right away.

If you’re curious whether your favorite hangout is open yet, you can give them a call, or you can check the events page on the Deadwood Chamber website. They’re keeping an updated list of the reopening plans of nearly every place in town, so it’s a handy spot to get a status report on Deadwood as a whole. While a lot of businesses are opening up today, some won’t be open until June 1st.

In the meantime, outdoor venues like the Mickelson Trail, Mount Roosevelt, and Mount Moriah Cemetery remain open and accessible. Most nearby state and national park sites - including Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore National Memorial, and Badlands National Park - are also accessible, though the visitor centers and museums are closed and likely won’t reopen until later this month.

If you have any questions about what’s open or still closed, please don’t hesitate to ask us. You can send us a note straight from the website, or you can call us at 864-210-1899.
